Where am I from?

I am from Rucheng County, Chenzhou City, Hunan Province, China. Hunan is an inland province in the central south of China where it’s very scorching in summer and pretty cold and wet in winter, while the weather is much mild in Chenzhou. Chenzhou is a beautiful city with lots of small rivers and mountains, it is located in the south of Hunan, so it is also called “湘南” in Chinese. Chenzhou is known for hot springs, burning incense dragon, spicy food, Linwu duck, East River fish, etc. Here is a music video singing about my hometown Rucheng.

About Xiangtan

Xiangtan (湘潭)is a city in Hunan Province of China. Xiangtan is famous for its production of lotus seed, so it is also called “Lotus city” (莲城). People in Xiangtan like to chew areca nut (槟榔), though the area itself doesn’t grow them. Most raw areca nut fruits are from Hainan and processed locally. The history of consuming areca nut dates back to 400 years ago, when people chewed it for pandemic prevention. Nowadays, it is quite common to see people chewing areca nut in Hunan.

Xiangtan is located on the lower reaches of Xiang river, which is very close to Changsha (30km), Hengshan (60km) and Zhangjiajie (National Forest Park). It is the hometowns of several founding leaders of the Chinese Communist Party, including Chairman Mao, Shaoqi Liu, and Dehuai Peng, as well as the hometowns of Qing Dynasty painter Baishi Qi and military general Guofan Zeng.
